Any student currently enrolled in a Pre-Med course of study at a college or university is welcome to volunteer on a semester basis in either the Ambulatory Care Unit, Emergency Department, Endoscopy, or the Operating Room. These students agree to a commitment of at least 60 volunteer hours.
To apply:
1) Call (314) 577-8030 and request an application packet for the Pre-Med Program.
2) Complete the application packet and return to the Volunteer Office. Allow two weeks for processing of the application packet. A Volunteer Services representative will contact you to set up an interview.
Application deadlines:
For Fall Semester (late August-late December): June 30
For Spring Semester (Middle of January-early May): November 15
For Summer Semester (Middle of May-late August): April 1
If accepted for these programs, participants must:
1) Authorize processing of background check.
2) Submit two references.
3) Attend orientation to the Volunteer Program at Saint Louis University Hospital
4) Attend orientation to the department/departments in which they are assigned
5) Purchase a uniform shirt that identifies the wearer as a Hospital Volunteer
6) Adhere to all procedures and policies of the Hospital and Volunteer Department
7) Complete the initial step of a two-step Tuberculosis screening with the hospital's Employee Health Office before start date.
